The Philippines: Pearl of the Orient Seas

The Philippines is an archipelago that is made up of 7,107 islands with beaches that stretch to more than 15,500 kilometers. It is part of Southeast Asia, bounded by the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean, Bashi channel, and the Sulu and Celebes seas. There are three geographical areas: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, Luzon being the largest among the three and is the location of the nation’s capital, Manila.

All year-round the Philippines experience an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Because of its tropical climate, the summers can be extremely hot and humid, and the rainy days can bring the most torrential downpours. However, the Philippines also have highland retreats found in its mountain ranges. Here, the temperature can be as low as 16 degrees Celsius all year and can even drop to 10-11 degrees during Christmas.

With a population of 96 million, the Philippines is known to have friendly and happy people. Indeed, due to the innate warmth and hospitality they offer to both tourist and fellow Filipinos in whatever situation or occasion, the country even ranked first as the friendliest nation and the third happiest nation in Asia.
